January 19, 1:30pm, Keynote address for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.  Hosted by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Planning Committee of Saratoga Springs. To be delivered by our executive director, James DeWolf Perry.

January 25, “From Emancipation to Equality: What History Tells Us About the #BlackLivesMatter Movement,” United Church of Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, N.C. This Tracing Center workshop follows up on a weekend retreat the Tracing Center offered for the church last fall, and asks: what is holding us back from having a genuine national conversation about police encounters with black citizens and persistent racial inequities?

January 26, New Garden Friends School, Greensboro, N.C. The Tracing Center will be offering two sets of programs on this day, one for middle school students and one for upper school students.

January 27, Penn-Griffin School for the Arts, High Point, N.C. This is a Tracing Center program featuring our film, Traces of the Trade, and based on our national campaign, “From Emancipation to Equality.”

January 27, 7:00pm, High Point University, High Point, N.C. This is a Tracing Center program featuring Traces of the Trade and a discussion with our executive director, James DeWolf Perry, offered for the university community.

January 28, High Point University, High Point, N.C. The Tracing Center will be offering classrooms programs on campus this day.

January 30, 10:00am, Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Va. Screening and discussion with James DeWolf Perry, via videoconference.

February 3, 5:00pm, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I. With Katrina Browne. Part of the university’s 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Week.

February 4, 2:00pm, “Bias, Baggage, and Beyond,” University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I. Seminar with Katrina Browne on racism and racial bias, white privilege, and historical myth.

February 5, 7:00pm, launch event for Interpreting Slavery at Museums and Historic Sites, Royall House & Slave Quarters, Medford, Mass. NOTE: This event has been POSTPONED due to weather, until February 23.

February 21, 9:00am-11:30am, “Unpacking Race: An Essential Conversation in Schools and in Homes,” Brown University, Providence, R.I. Keynote presentation by Debby Irving, author of Waking Up White, and James DeWolf Perry, on the role of race in the education of young Americans, as part of a two-day symposium on this topic.

February 23, 7:00pm, launch event for Interpreting Slavery at Museums and Historic Sites, Royall House & Slave Quarters, Medford, Mass. Editors Kristin Gallas and James DeWolf Perry will speak about the book and lead a conversation about the relevance of the history of slavery in contemporary society. NOTE: This event has been POSTPONED due to weather, until May 6.

This is a day-long Tracing Center workshop for public history professionals, offered as part of the National Council on Public History’s 2015 Annual Meeting.

April 16, 6:00pm, Rhode Island’s Slave Trade History,” Cathedral of St. John, Providence, R.I. This panel discussion on the proposed Center for Reconciliation in Rhode Island will include the Rt. Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, Jr., the Episcopal Bishop of Rhode Island, and from the project’s partner organizations: Professor Anthony Bogues of Brown University’s Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice; James DeWolf Perry, executive director of the Tracing Center; and Ray Rickman of the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society.

April 27-28, Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, Little Rock, Ark. Tracing Center workshop on issues of race and the interpretation of African American history, offered by Kristin Gallas and Dr. Terrence Roberts of the Little Rock Nine.

This is a screening of our documentary “Traces of the Trade” for the U.K.’s Black History Month, followed by a public debate on reparations. Sponsored by the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) in collaboration with the Africa in Motion (AiM) Film Festival.

November 17, 7:00pm-9:00pm, St. Paul’s Church, Wickford, R.I. This screening and discussion of the film will include James DeWolf Perry and is sponsored by the Center for Reconciliation in Providence, R.I.

December 13, 2:00pm, “New England’s Public Memory of Slavery and Its Role in the Black Lives Matter Movement,” Berkshire Human Rights Speaker Series, Great Barrington, Mass. James DeWolf Perry will speak at this program in the series.
