January 25, “From Emancipation to Equality: What History Tells Us About the #BlackLivesMatter Movement,” United Church of Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, N.C. This Tracing Center workshop follows up on a weekend retreat the Tracing Center offered for the church last fall, and asks: what is holding us back from having a genuine national conversation about police encounters with black citizens and persistent racial inequities?

Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, Jr., the Episcopal Bishop of Rhode Island, and from the project’s partner organizations: Professor Anthony Bogues of Brown University’s Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice; James DeWolf Perry, executive director of the Tracing Center; and Ray Rickman of the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society.
